There is disclosed a medical device, such as a urinary catheter, comprising a substrate material, a hydrophilic sur-face coating, e.g. comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), arranged on at least a part of the surface of said substrate material, and an antibacterial layer comprising oligodynamic metal arranged between the substrate material and the hydrophilic surface coating. Further, the hydrophilic surface coating has a thickness large enough to provide a controlled release of oligodynamic metal ions through the hydrophilic surface coating, such as a thickness when dry that exceeds 3 µm. Hereby, the variation in the release of the oligodynamic metal ions is significantly reduced, enabling an improved control of the release. A corresponding method is also disclosed.

Cette invention concerne un dispositif médical, par exemple un cathéter urinaire, comprenant un matériau substrat, un revêtement de surface hydrophile contenant par exemple de la polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) et recouvrant au moins une partie de la surface dudit matériau substrat, et une couche antibactérienne comportant un métal oligodynamique placée entre le matériau substrat et le revêtement de surface hydrophile. Le revêtement de surface hydrophile a par ailleurs une épaisseur suffisante pour assurer une libération contrôlée dions métalliques oligodynamiques à travers lui, cette épaisseur étant telle quelle dépasse 3 µm lorsque le revêtement est sec. La variation de libération des ions métalliques oligodynamiques est ainsi significativement réduite, ce qui en permet un meilleur contrôle. Linvention concerne également un procédé associé.
