A medical face mask used as an anaesthesia/respiratory mask comprising a shaped base member 2 having a front wall portion 3 and a side wall portion 5 which defines an open portion 6 enabling the vase member to be placed over a patient's face. The base member 2 has a sealing means 7 around the peripheral edge of the side wall 5. The mask when viewed face on is of a substantially heart shape with the upper part of the mask 9 is wider than the lower part of the mask, with the indentation 9a at the top of the mask extending below the bridge and towards the tip of the patient's nose, in use.
