ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Medical isotopes are produced using a low power, low cost nuclear reactor which permits the use of all the fission products produced in the reactor. Medical isotope such as Molybdenum-99 are produced in a reactor operating at a power of 200 kilowatts. Medical isotopes can be produced from both the water boiler type reactor and the gas-cooled type reactor by using a homogeneous fissionable material for producing a fission product which can be separated, filtered and purified for obtaining the medical isotopes.
