ABSTRACT A medical lancet means for puncturing skin is disclosed. The lancet means comprises a moulded lancet retaining male member having an elongate body. A lancet having a pointed end projects axially from the body at its front end. A female member has an elongate hollow body with an axial hole adapted to receive the body of the male member through its rear end. The female body is being of such a length, and the lancet is so arranged on the male member that the pointed end of the lancet protrudes a predetermined distance out of the female member at its front end when the male member is fully inserted in the female member to define an operative puncturing position. The male and female members have first engaging stop means arranged to temporarily prevent continued insertion of the male member at a predetermined initial position of the male member in the female member, partial insertion of the male member into the female member. In the initial position, the pointed end of the lancet is located within the female member. The arresting function of the first stop means is overcome by applying pressure on the male member thereby pushing the male member the remaining distance into the female member from the initial position to the operative position.
