A medical monitoring system has a sensor system including a sensor associated with a patient and a remote monitoring unit. The remote. monitoring unit includes a microprocessor in communication with the sensor system, and a portable-monitoring-unit transceiver system in communication with the microprocessor. The portable-monitoring-unit transceiver system has a land- line telephone transceiver and/or a cellular telephone transceiver, and a third-network transceiver such as a paging-network transceiver. A full data set is transmitted over the land-line telephone transceiver or the cellular telephone transceiver when communications links over these transceivers are available, and a reduced data set is transmitted over the third-network transceiver when communications links over the land-line telephone transceiver and the cellular telephone transceiver are not available.
Cette invention se rapporte à un système de surveillance médicale comportant : un système de capteur comprenant un capteur associé à un patient ; et une unité de surveillance à distance. Cette unité de surveillance à distance comprend un microprocesseur relié au système de capteur, et un système émetteur-récepteur d'unité de surveillance portative relié au microprocesseur. Le système émetteur-récepteur d'unité de surveillance portative comporte un émetteur-récepteur de téléphone conventionnel et/ou un émetteur-récepteur de téléphone cellulaire et un émetteur-récepteur de troisième réseau, tel qu'un émetteur-récepteur de réseau de radiomessagerie. Un ensemble de données complet est transmis sur l'émetteur-récepteur de téléphone conventionnel ou de téléphone cellulaire lorsque les liaisons de communications sur ces émetteurs-récepteurs sont disponibles, et un ensemble de données réduit est transmis sur l'émetteur-récepteur de troisième réseau lorsque les liaisons de communications sur l'émetteur-récepteur de téléphone conventionnel et de téléphone cellulaire ne sont pas disponibles.
