2116446 9303781 PCTABS00020 A unit dose syringe (10) comprises a fluid-containing plastic bag (11) with an attached needle (27) and a dimensionally-stable shell (12) like a woman's compact. The shell (12) contains a thumb-operated slider assembly (16) for advancing the needle (27) to an exposed position for fluid delivery. The syringe (10) also includes a spring-biasing arrangement (18) to return the needle, automatically, to the protected position after use, and a means (81) for rupturing the bag (11) and retaining the needle in the protected position.
