The blade (200) includes at least one opening (210) with at least one sharpened edge (250). The blade (200) also has at least one raised portion (270) adjacent to the sharpened edges (250). The blade (200) cooperates with a cutting plate (500) to chop or scissor the medical waste (800). The raised portion (270) pushes chopped medical waste (800) away from the blade (200) and the cutting plate (500).
