A system for the controlled dispensing and storing of medication and more particularly, a programmed computerized system (21) with var- ious types of medication dispensing units (40) to dispense one or more single units of medication items, according to patient requirements that are programmed into the system (21). A modular medication dispensing unit (40) with its own mi- croprocessor (70) is provided. This medication dispensing unit (40) can be removed from the system (21) or have its power supply turned off and the microprocessor (70) maintains information regarding the type quantity, expiration dates and other relevant information about each medication item in the medication dispensing unit (40).

L'invention concerne un système permettant de stocker et de distribuer de manière régulée un médicament, et plus particulièrement, elle concerne un système programmé et informatisé (21) ayant divers types d'unités de distribution (40) de médicament afin de distribuer une ou plusieurs unités de médicament selon les besoins d'un patient, ses besoins étant dans le programme du système (21). Une unité de distribution modulaire (40) de médicament avec son propre microprocesseur (70) est prévue. Cette unité de distribution (40) peut être retirée du système (21) ou l'on peut couper son alimentation électrique, et le microprocesseur (70) garde néanmoins les informations concernant la quantité, le type de médicament, les dates d'expiration ou toute autre donnée pertinente concernant chaque médicament se trouvant dans l'unité de distribution de médicament (40).
