Medicinal compositions for preventing or treating diarrhea which contain, as the active ingredient, siastain B or its derivatives having a .beta.- glucuronidase inhibitory activity and are useful as preventives or remedies for diarrhea whereby diarrhea disorders occurring in patients with cancer as the side effect of the administration of chemotherapeutics for cancer (in particular, anticancer camptothecin derivatives serving as a topo isomerase I inhibitor) can be ameliorated. These compositions are efficacious in preventing and treating diarrhea associating the administration of anticancer camptothecin derivatives.

L'invention concerne des compositions médicinales de prévention ou de traitement de la diarrhée contenant, comme principe actif, siastain B ou ses dérivés présentant une activité inhibitrice .beta.-glucuronidase et étant utiles comme préventifs ou remèdes contre la diarrhée, ainsi que pour atténuer les problèmes de diarrhées des patients souffrant du cancer résultant de la chimiothérapie du cancer (en particulier, de l'administration de dérivés camptothécines anticancéreux servant d'inhibiteur topo-isomérase I). Ces compositions se révèlent efficaces dans la prévention et le traitement de diarrhées associées à l'administration de dérivés camptothécines anticancéreux.
