ABSTRACT A priority resolver for use in combination with a computer system having a plurality of devices coupled to a common shared unit, each device competing with each other for access to the shared unit. The priority re- solver provides unambiguous resolution of requests by the devices for access to the shared unit during a first service cycle. The priority resolver com- prises flip-flops having a first and second state for storing requests of the devices for access to the shared unit, NAND gates coupled to the flip-flops for prioritizing the requests for access to the shared unit, comparators coupled to the flip-flops and NAND gates for comparing priority of the stored requests; and,a logic circuit coupled to the flip-flops and NAND gates provides unambiguous resolution of the priority of the requests during a conflict re- solver interval.
