TITLE MELAMINE AS A NITROGEN SOURCE IN PLANT FERTILIZATION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Melamine recrystallized from commercially produced melamine is disclosed for use in plant fertilization as a nitrogen source, particularly for trees and shrubs, without resulting phytotoxic effects at application rates needed for effective fertilization. The melamine is recrystallized one or more times from a water dispersion thereof to remove one or more unidentified impurities present in commercially produced melamine which are phytotoxic. Also disclosed is a composition for synergistically enhancing the growth of plants when applied to the soil around the plants, the composition consisting essentially of a con- trolled release form of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (herbi- cide) in conjunction with recrystallized melamine from which the phytotoxic impurities have been removed.
