The present invention relates to membranes useful in the separation of water from a solution containing volatile organic compounds and water. The membranes may be used in dehydrating an organic/water mixture to purify an organic when an organic is of interest or, alternatively, producing pure water from an organic/water mixture when clean water is of interest. The membranes include a hydrophilic base polymer, an optional pore-forming polymer and a surface modifying macromolecule (SMM) which imparts surface hydrophobicity to the membrane.
La présente invention porte sur des membranes utiles pour séparer l'eau d'une solution contenant des composés organiques volatils et de l'eau. Les membranes peuvent servir à déshydrater un mélange de matières organiques et d'eau pour purifier les matières organiques lorsqu'elles présentent un intérêt ou encore à produire de l'eau pure à partir d'un tel mélange quand c'est l'eau propre que l'on recherche. Les membranes comprennent un polymère à base hydrophile, optionnellement un polymère porogène et une macromolécule modifiant la surface (SMM) qui confère l'hydrophobicité superficielle à la membrane.
