2098715 9211918 PCTABS00014 A membrane process and system for removing condensable components from gas or liquid streams. The process includes a membrane separation step and a recovery step. An auxiliary membrane module or set of modules (10) is installed across a vacuum pump (5) and/or recovery unit (7) on the downstream side of main membrane unit (2). Auxiliary module (10) takes as its feed a stream (9) from recovery unit (7) and returns a component-enriched stream (12) to the inlet of vacuum pump (5) or recovery unit (7), and can be sized to produce a discharge stream (11) containing the component in about the same concentration as the feed stream (1) to be treated. Stream (11) can then be mixed with feed stream (1) without adverse effect on the efficiency of the system.
