An MPEG decoder operates in 2.5 frame store mode, and has an efficient memory management which allows a B picture to be stored and displayed while simultaneously making use of a portion of the frame store memory. The video frame is treated as a grid, having rows of 8 x 8 pixel blocks. The pixel blocks are manipulated in three FIFOs which are cross-connected in a closed loop. Two processes operateon the memory so arranged: (1) a video reconstruction process which writes data into the memory, and (2) a display process, which accesses the memory and writesthe video frame into another, external memory in a rastered format. One of the three cross-coupled FIFOs is designated for write-back, and the other two for reading 2:1 interlaced raster data. The two FIFOs utilized for the raster operation are allocated to the alternate lines of the picture.

Décodeur MPEG qui fonctionne en mode de mémorisation de 2,5 images et possède une gestion de mémoire efficace qui lui permet de stocker et d'afficher une image B tout en utilisant simultanément une partie de la mémoire d'image. L'image vidéo est traitée comme une grille constituée de blocs de pixels disposés 8 par 8. Ces derniers sont manipulés dans trois FIFO interconnectés en boucle fermée. Deux processus agissent sur la mémoire ainsi structurée : 1) un processus de reconstitution vidéo qui enregistre des données dans la mémoire; et 2) un processus d'affichage, qui accède à la mémoire et emmagasine l'image vidéo dans une autre mémoire externe, dans un format tramé. Un des trois FIFO interconnectés est désigné pour la réécriture, et les deux autres pour la lecture 2:1 des données tramées entrelacées. Les deux FIFO servant à l'opération de tramage sont destinés aux lignes alternées de l'image.
