Abstract of the Disclosure A memory system for sequentially storing and retrieving data samples corresponding to picture elements of a two dimensional video image arranged in successive vertically organized horizontal lines permits storage and retrieval of the data samples at a rate higher than the maximum access rate of individual ones of a plurality of data storage modules included in the memory system. The storage modules are accessed for storage and retrieval under the control of an addressing system according to two sequences so related that different modules are accessed simultaneously for storage and retrieval of data samples and, over a plurality of successive lines, a different one of the storage modules is accessed for storage upon the occurrence of the first data sample of each one of the plurality of successive lines.
