A method and apparatus for a menu based system containing size and location information is disclosed. Each menu contains a list of menu items containing a command and variables that reflect the command's current appearance. This includes status information determinative of the menu item's state (enabled/disabled), its name, its associated graphic, and whether its appearance is currently valid. Each of these were initialized when the menu item was created. The invention creates a menu item from a command, where a menu item is another object data structure containing a command sequence. The menu item is added to a list of menu items, and initialized as an invalid appearance. Later when the menu its is selected from a pull down menu, the appearance state is recomputed based on the system state.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil s'appliquant à un système à base de menus contenant des informations relatives à la capacité et à l'implantation. Chaque menu contient une liste d'articles comportant une instruction et des variables qui reflètent l'aspect actuel de l'instruction. Le système comprend des informations relatives à l'état et qui déterminent l'état d'un article du menu (validé/invalidé), son nom, son graphique associé et des informations qui permettent de savoir si son aspect est toujours correct. Chacune de ces informations a été initialisée au moment de la création de l'article du menu. L'invention crée un article de menu à partir d'une instruction où un article de menu représente une autre structure de donnée objet contenant une séquence d'instructions. L'article du menu est ajouté à une liste d'articles de menu, et initialisé en tant qu'article comportant un aspect incorrect. Puis, lorsque l'article du menu est sélectionné à partir d'un menu déroulant, l'état de l'aspect est recalculé sur la base de l'état du système.
