A communications adapter is provided for interfacing between a master device and an I/O device (body) having an output and/or an input. In the case of the I/O body having an output, the adapter has a TCP port for coupling to the master device via a transmission path for receiving a request message. The adapter also has a connector for operable coupling to the I/O device for receiving the output of the I/O device. The adapter further has an interface circuit operably connected to the TCP port and the connector for transmitting a response message over the transmission path in response to the request message, the response message correlating to the output received from the I/O device. The request message and the response message is limited to a length that is less than a TCP transaction length and/or a maximum transmission unit limit, or both, depending on the embodiment of the present invention.
La présente invention porte sur un adaptateur (10) de communications qui est prévu pour servir d'interface entre un dispositif maître (12) et un dispositif (14) d'entrée/sortie (corps) doté d'une sortie et/ou d'une entrée. Dans le cas d'un corps (14) d'entrée/sortie doté d'une sortie, l'adaptateur est un port TCP destiné être couplé au dispositif maître via un chemin de transmission pour recevoir un message de demande. L'adaptateur (10) comprend également un connecteur qui assure le couplage effectif au dispositif (14) d'entrée/sortie en vue de recevoir la sortie du dispositif d'entrée/sortie. L'adaptateur (10) est également doté d'un circuit d'interface qui est relié de manière fonctionnelle au port TCP et au connecteur pour envoyer un message de réponse sur le chemin de transmission qui fait suite au message de demande; le message de réponse étant en corrélation avec la sortie reçue en provenance du dispositif d'entrée/sortie. Le message de demande et le message de réponse sont limités à une longueur qui est inférieure à une longueur de transaction TCP et/ou à une limite d'unité de transmission maximum, ou bien au deux, selon la forme de réalisation de la présente invention.
