There is provided, according to the invention, a metal clip and a tool for closing the same, to be used for tying mining screens and the like. The clip is of a wire or rod type having a generally elongated V-shaped configuration with a rounded bottom and with one of its top ends being inwardly bent and having a taper at its extremity and the other top end being flattened and having a hole therein which is substantially the same as or slightly smaller than the cross-section of the clip. The tool has a pair of jaws one of which is stationary and the other movable toward and away from the stationary jaw. The jaws have recesses to maintain the V-shaped clip between them and a hydraulically actuated system is provided that operates the movable jaw toward and away from the stationary jaw to lock the clip by pushing the bent, tapered end into the hole.
