ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A Ni-, Cu- or Co-complex of an azomethine of the formula Image wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, R2 represents a naphtalene, pyridine, quinoline, isoquino- line, coumarine, pyrazole, pyrimidine or imidazolo-pyridine radical with a hydroxy group adjacent to the azomethine group, or R1 and R2 together with the carbon atom of the azomethine group represent an isoindolinone ring, each of X1 and X2 independently represents alkyl or cycloalkyl radi- cals or together they represent a fused benzene ring and Y represents the radical of a compound containing active methylene groups, of a heterocyclic primary amine or of a hydrazide.
