ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A metal disc saw has a frame carrying a slide upon which a saw blade is rotatably mounted. The frame is pivotable and securable relative to a fixed workpiece stop. The slide is horizontally movable away from a starting position to effect a cut on a workpiece. In the starting position, the saw blade is on the opposite side of the workpiece stop to the workpiece. The axis of the saw blade is above the workpiece and the direction of rotation of the saw blade is opposite to the direction of movement of the slide so that during cutting, the workpiece is urged against the stop. This reduces vibration and wedging between the workpiece and the saw blade because the workpiece stop is rigidly secured to the workshop floor via a pillar relative to which the machine frame is pivotable.
