A metal matrix having ceramic particles distributed therein is made by the process of introducing a halide vapor of the metal forming the matrix into flowing alkali or alkaline earth metal or mixtures thereof. A vapor of the constituents of the ceramic. Sufficient excess alkali and/or alkaline earth metal is present to maintain the temperature of substantially all of the reaction products below the sintering temperatures to produce metal matrix particles and ceramic particles and salt particles in excess alkali and/or alkaline earth metal. The excess alkali and/or alkaline earth metal and the salt particles are removed leaving a mixture of metal matrix particles and ceramic particles. A method is also disclosed.
L'invention concerne une matrice métallique dans laquelle sont réparties des particules céramiques et un procédé de production de celle-ci. Le procédé comporte les étapes consistant à: introduire une vapeur de halogénure du métal formant la matrice dans un écoulement de métal alcalin, de métal alcalino-terreux ou d'un mélange de ceux-ci; introduire dans l'écoulement une vapeur des constituants de la céramique, le surplus de métal alcalin et/ou de métal alcalino-terreux étant suffisant pour maintenir la température de sensiblement tous les produits de réaction au-dessous des températures de frittage afin de produire des particules de matrice métallique, des particules céramiques et des particules de sel dans le métal alcalin et/ou le métal alcalino-terreux en excès; éliminer le métal alcalin et/ou le métal alcalino-terreux en excès ainsi que les particules de sel de manière à obtenir un mélange de particules de matrice métallique et des particules céramiques.
