As a preferred embodiment, a metal oxide material is provided which is represented by the compositional formula: LnxBiyAzCuO.delta., wherein Ln is at least one element selected from the group consisting of lanthanoid elements and yttrium; A is at least one element selected from alkaline earth metals; and 0.01 x 0.5, 0.5 y < 3, 0.5 z < 3, and 4 < .delta..
