A metal oxide powder except .alpha.-alumina, comprising poly- hedral particles having at least 6 planes each, a number average particle size of from 0.1 to 300 µm, and a D90/D10 ratio of 10 or less where D10 and D90 are particle sizes at 10 % and 90 % accumu- lation, respectively from the smallest particle size side in a cumula- tive particle size curve of the particles. This metal oxide powder contains less agglomerated particles, and has a narrow particle size distribution and a uniform particle shape.

Poudre d'un oxyde métallique, à l'exception d' alpha -alumine, constituée de particules polyèdres à au moins six côtés et présentant un diamètre moyen numérique de particules compris entre 0,1 et 300 mu m et une distribution granulométrique ne dépassant pas 10 en termes de D90/D10 (D10 et D90 représentant les diamètres de particules correspondant à la valeur cumulée de 10 % et de 90 % respectivement telle que déterminée au niveau du côté de la courbe de distribution granulométrique cumulative où les particules sont plus fines pour les particules constituant la poudre); et poudre d'oxyde de titane rutile constituée de particules polyèdres à au moins huit côtés. Ces poudres présentent une teneur réduite en particules agglomérées ainsi qu'une distribution granulométrique étroite et des formes de particules régulières.
