Abstract of the Disclosure The invention provides a metal structural member suitable for example, as a joist for the floor structure of a mobile home. The member has spaced parallel flanges and an intervening perpend- icular web, and one or both ends is offset to permit it to be inserted between non-offset flanges of another similar member and thereby obtain a flush surface at their junction. The offset end is formed simultaneously to have an area of the web displaced transversely to provide stiffening ribs from the surplus metal which might otherwise wrinkle and weaken the web. The boundary of the displaced area is of parallelopiped shape to provide first and second spaced transverse stiffening ribs in the web, one of which is spaced from the adjacent web end a distance between 20 and 30 times the thickness of the web metal, and the second of which disposed at least approximately at the junction of said offset flange part and the remainder of the flange. The displaced area also provides first and second spaced longitudinal ribs connecting the two transverse ribs. A separate longitudinal rib may be provided between the said displaced area and the offset flange part to absorb wrinkling produced by the formation of the offset flange end part. The member may be rolled from a continuous strip of metal with the steps of offsetting the flange, displacing the web transversely, and severing the strip into separate structural members all carried out on a contin- uously operating production line.
