14 ABSTRACT Metal Vapour Laser Apparatus Metal vapour laser apparatus includes a laser tube 1 and a reactor chamber 6 in which is contained metal 8 which in this case is copper in the form of granules. Neon is introduced via one input port 9 of the chamber 6 and a halogen or halogen donor gas through another input port 10. Coil 7 surrounds the reactor chamber 6 and provides heating. Metal halide is formed at the surface of the metal and vaporised by heating. The buffer gas and metal halide are transmitted via conduit 11 into the laser tube 1 where dissociation of the metal halide and subsequent excitation of metal vapour is carried out to produce laser radiation.
