The invention relates to metal working fluids being oil-in-water emulsions comprising alkylated polyvinylpyrrolidones as surfactants for emulsifying the oil in water. Said alkylated polyvinylpyrrolidones having a molecular weight of about 1,000 up to 50,000 provide emulsions showing a high emulsion stability under varying and severe processing conditions of metal working fluids. Further, advantages of the metal working fluids according to the invention are the narrow distribution of the droplet size, the high stability against varying temperature, the high stability against varying quality/composition of the make-up water, a high capacity of dispersing metal fines in the metal working fluid as well as excellent film forming characteristics.
La présente invention concerne des fluides pour le travail des métaux qui se présentent sous forme d'émulsions huile-dans-eau contenant en tant que tensioactifs des polyvinylpyrrolidones alkylées destinées à émulsionner l'huile dans l'eau. Les polyvinylpyrrolidones alkylées ayant un poids moléculaire compris entre environ 1,000 et 50,000 produisent des émulsions ayant une stabilité élevée dans des conditions de traitement variables et rigoureuses de fluides pour le travail des métaux. D'autres avantages de ces fluides pour le travail des métaux selon la présente invention sont la distribution étroite de la taille des gouttelettes, la stabilité élevée dans des conditions de température variable, la stabilité élevée face à une qualité/composition variable de l'eau d'appoint, la forte capacité de dispersion des fines de métal dans le fluide de travail des métaux ainsi que d'excellentes caractéristiques filmogènes.
