Metallic articles (21) having heat transfer channels are produced by solidification of molten metallic material (3, 4, 6) about preformed channel defining means (5) such that a solidified metallic deposit having heat transfer channels is formed. The channel defining means may be in the form of either solid elements (which are subsequently removed to leave the channels), or conduit elements (which may remain permanently embedded in the article). Moulds, dies, cores and other tools for use in moulding or casting of plastics and metals are particularly suitably formed by the process, the heat transfer channels being used for cooling of the respective articles during use. The molten metallic material is preferably deposited by spray forming utilising one or more sprays of molten metallic material.

Articles métalliques (21) possédant des canaux de transfert thermique qu'on fabrique par solidification de matériau métallique en fusion (3, 4, 6) autour de moyens préconstitués (5) définissant un canal, de façon à obtenir un dépôt métallique solidifié possédant des canaux de transfert thermique. Les moyens définissant un canal peuvent se présenter sous la forme soit d'éléments solides (qu'on supprime ensuite afin de laisser les canaux), soit d'éléments de conduits (qui peuvent rester en permanence encastrés dans l'article). Le procédé permet de fabriquer avantageusement des moules, des matrices, des noyaux et d'autres outils s'utilisant dans le moulage ou le coulage de plastiques et de métaux, les canaux de transfert thermique s'utilisant afin de refroidir les articles respectifs pendant l'utilisation. Le matériau métallique fondu est, de préférence, déposé par pulvérisation au moyen d'un ou plusieurs jets dudit matériau.
