A method of manufacturing a composite and of securing a metallic coating to a resin-based composite material, comprising the provision of a keying structure on a metallic electroplated preform and bringing the keying structure and the composite material together under conditions to cause the composite material and the keying structure to interlock. The invention also provides a composite (10) comprising a resin-based composite material (12) with a metallic coating (14) on a surface, or part surface (16) thereof, the metallic coating (14) comprising an outer electroplated preform, and an inner keying structure (20) which is located generally between said electroplated preform (18) and the composite material (12) to provide attachment of the electroplated preform (18) on the composite material (12).

Procédé consistant à fabriquer un composite et à fixer un revêtement métallique sur un matériau composite à base de résine, comprenant l'apport d'une structure d'accrochage sur une ébauche métallique électroplaquée et le rassemblement de la structure d'accrochage et du matériau composite sous certaines conditions pour amener le matériau composite et la structure d'accrochage à se verrouiller ensemble. L'invention propose également un composite (10) comprenant un matériau composite (12) à base de résine doté d'un revêtement métallique (14) sur une surface, ou une partie (16) de surface de celui-ci, le revêtement métallique (14) comprenant une ébauche externe électroplaquée et une structure interne (20) d'accrochage qui est généralement située entre ladite ébauche électroplaquée (18) et le matériau composite (12) pour permettre de rattacher l'ébauche électroplaquée (18) sur le matériau composite (12).
