A granular metallic iron which is produced by subjecting a raw material containing a carbonaceous reducing agent and an iron-containing material to reduction and melting, characterized in that it has an iron content of 94 mass % or more, a C content of 1.0 to 4.5 mass %, and a granule diameter of 1 to 30 mm.
