A metallic oxygen evolving anode for electrowinning aluminium by decomposition of alumina dissolved in a cryolite-based molten electrolyte, and operable at anode current densities of 1.1 to 1.3 A/cm2, comprises an alloy of nickel, iron, manganese, optionally copper, and silicon. Preferably, the alloy is composed of 64-66w% Ni; Iron; 25-27w% Fe; 7-9w% Mn; 0-0.7w% Cu; and 0.4-0.6w% Si. The weight ratio Ni/Fe is in the range 2.1 to 2.89, preferably 2.3 to 2.6, the weight ratio Ni/(Ni + Cu) is greater than 0.98, the weight ratio Cu/Ni is less than 0.01, and the weight ratio Mn/Ni is from 0.09 to 0.15. The alloy surface can comprise nickel ferrite produced by pre-oxidation of the alloy. The alloy, optionally with a pre-oxidised surface, can be coated with an external coating comprising cobalt oxide CoO.

La présente invention concerne une anode métallique de dégagement doxygène pour lextraction électrolytique daluminium par la décomposition dalumine dissoute dans un électrolyte en fusion à base de cryolithe et opérable à des densités de courant anodiques comprises entre 1,1 et 1,3 A/cm2, comportant un alliage de nickel, de fer, de manganèse, éventuellement de cuivre, et de silicium. De préférence, lalliage est composé de 64-66% en poids de Ni; 25-27% en poids de Fe; 7-9% en poids de Mn; 0-0,7% en poids de Cu; et 0,4-0,6% en poids de Si. Le rapport pondéral Ni/Fe est compris entre 2,1 et 2,89, de préférence entre 2,3 et 2,6, le rapport pondéral Ni/(Ni + Cu) est supérieur à 0,98, le rapport pondéral Cu/Ni est inférieur à 0,01, et le rapport pondéral Mn/Ni est compris entre 0,09 et 0,15. La surface de lalliage peut comporter du ferrite de nickel produit par la préoxydation de lalliage. Lalliage, éventuellement avec une surface préoxydée, peut être recouvert dun revêtement extérieur comprenant de loxyde de cobalt CoO.
