- 1 - Abstract The present invention is directed to a metallic pigment composition which comprises a metallic pigment and a phosphorus compound selected from the group consisting of a phosphite represented by the following formula (I); Image (I) wherein R1, R2 and R3, which are the same or different, represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, a halogen-substituted alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, an aryl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group and an alkanol group, and n represents an integer of 2 to 4, and a phosphobetain represented by the following formula (II); Image (II) wherein R4, R5, R6 and R7, which are the same or different, represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, a halogen-substituted alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, an aryl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group and an alkanol group, n is the same as mentioned above. The metallic pigment composition of the present invention is suitable for use in a waterborne coating composition.
