A metatarsal guard inserted in the upper of a safety shoe is made of plastic and defines an arch extending from the sole of the shoe on one side of the wearer's instep to the sole on the other side of the wearer's instep. The metatarsal guard includes a rear impact-absorbing portion having longitudinal slits cut in the sheet material to form a transversal series of longitudinal tongues that spread apart to follow the movement of the foot when the wearer is walking. An integral flap is formed in the sheet material at the distal end of the central tongue. This central tongue is folded to apply the flap to the top surface of the tongues and thereby distribute the load upon the impact of a falling object. The metatarsal guard is further provided with two lateral slits cut in the sheet material and extending transversely to facilitate flexion of the metatarsal guard upon flexion of the wearer's foot. A front portion of the metatarsal guard includes at least one longitudinally extending tongue bent to be applied to the top surface of the toe cap whereby load applied to the metatarsal guard is also applied to the toe cap.
Un protecteur métatarsien inséré dans l'empeigne d'une chaussure de sécurité est fait de plastique et définit une arche s'étendant de la semelle de la chaussure sur un côté du cou-de-pied à la semelle de l'autre côté du cou-de-pied. Le protecteur métatarsien comprend une partie arrière absorbant les chocs et comportant des entailles longitudinales dans le stratifié qui forment une série transversale de languettes longitudinales capables de s'écarter l'une de l'autre pour suivre le mouvement du pied lors de la marche. Un rabat intégré est formé dans le stratifié au bout distal de la languette centrale. Cette languette centrale est pliée pour que le rabat recouvre la surface supérieure des languettes de manière à distribuer la charge en cas de choc d'un objet qui tombe. Le protecteur métatarsien comporte aussi deux entailles latérales dans le stratifié qui s'étendent transversalement pour faciliter la flexion du protecteur métatarsien quand il y a flexion du pied. La partie avant du protecteur métatarsien comporte au moins une languette longitudinale pliée de manière à recouvrir la surface supérieure de l'embout de protection des orteils, de sorte qu'une charge appliquée sur le protecteur métatarsien s'applique aussi sur l'embout de protection des orteils.
