11 A meter coupling for connecting an alternate power source to a meter socket during a power outage is described. The meter coupling is arranged to have the same dimensions as the meter socket of a power consumption meter so that when connected to the meter socket, the meter coupling covers all connection points, thereby reducing risk of injury. The meter coupling includes a plug for attachment to a portable generator and first prongs coupled to the plug and arranged to fit into the clips of the meter socket connected to the electrical circuit of the building so that electrical power from the generator flows into the electrical circuit of the building. The meter coupling further comprises second prongs arranged to fit into the clips of the meter socket connected to the municipal power source and connected to an alarm for signalling when municipal power has been restored.
