METERING SLOT CONFIGURATION FOR A VALVE SPOOL Abstract of the Disclosure A fluid control valve includes a valve spool reciprocable along its longitudinal axis within a longitudi- nally extending bore formed in a valve body and has a first land axially spaced from a second land by a reduced diameter portion. A metering slot is formed in the spool leading from a peripheral surface of the first land to a peripheral surface of the second land and includes a substantially cylindrical pocket recessed into the second land and generated about an axis disposed at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the spool, and a longitudinally extending groove formed in the first land and the reduced diameter portion connecting the peripheral surface of the first land with the cylindrical pocket. The longitudinally extending groove defines an arcuate surface portion leading from the peripheral surface of the first land and an elongated bottom surface portion disposed substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spool and tangent to the arcuate surface portion.
