(Meth)acrylic copolymers of general formula (1) are described, wherein all M<+>s are monovalent cations formed from the total or partial neutralization of -COOH groups; R1 and R2 are selected from hydrogen, straight or branched long chain alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals and aryl radicals with 8 to about 22 carbon atoms, with the proviso that at least one of R1 and R2 is not hydrogen; R3 and R4 are independently selected from a hydrogen atom, short chain alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals with 1 to 7 carbon atoms and aryl radicals with 6 to 7 carbon atoms; R5, R6 and R7 are each independently selected from a hydrogen atom and a methyl radical; tau 1 is the molar ratio of the long chain amide units in the copolymer and tau 2 is the molar ratio of the short chain amide units that may be present in the copolymer. Their weight average molecular weight is equal to 30,000 or less and tau 1 is 0.01 - 0.30. The invention is useful for pigment dispersions.

Copolymères (méth)acryliques de formule générale (1), dans laquelle les M+ sont des cations monovalents provenant de la neutralisation des groupes -COOH, cette neutralisation pouvant cependant n'avoir été que partielle; R1 et R2 sont choisis parmi: l'hydrogène, les radicaux alkyles ou cycloalkyles linéaires ou ramifiés à chaîne longue et les radicaux aryles ayant de 8 à environ 22 atomes de carbone, avec la condition que l'un au moins de R1 et R2 n'est pas l'hydrogène; R3 et R4 sont choisis indépendamment parmi: l'atome d'hydrogène, les radicaux alkyles ou cycloalkyles à chaîne courte ayant de 1 à 7 atomes de carbone et les radicaux aryles ayant de 6 à 7 atomes de carbone; R5, R6 et R7 sont chacun, indépendamment l'un de l'autre, chosis parmi l'atome d'hydrogène et le radical méthyle; .tau.1 est le taux molaire de motifs amides à chaîne longue dans le copolymère, et .tau.2 est le taux molaire de motifs amides à chaîne courte éventuellement présents dans le copolymère. Leur masse molaire moyenne en poids ne dépasse pas 30.000 et .tau.1 est compris entre 0,01 et 0,30. Application à la dispersion de pigment.
