Methanol synthesis in a synthesis loop having at least two synthesis stages wherein at least the final synthesis stage of the loop is effected in indirect heat exchange with pressurised water whereby a stream of heated pressurised water is produced, and the make-up gas fed to the loop is produced by a process including catalytically reacting a hydrocarbon feedstock with steam and at least part of that steam is introduced by direct contact of the hydrocarbon feedstock with the stream of heated pressurised water.

La synthèse du méthanol est effectuée dans une boucle de synthèse comprenant au moins deux étages de synthèse, l'étage de synthèse finale, au moins, de la boucle étant effectué dans des conditions d'échange thermique indirect avec de l'eau sous pression. Dans cette synthèse, un flux d'eau sous pression chauffée est produit et le gaz d'appoint envoyé dans la boucle est produit au moyen d'un procédé comprenant la réaction catalytique d'une charge hydrocarbure avec de la vapeur, au moins une partie de cette vapeur étant introduite par contact direct de la charge hydrocarbure avec le flux d'eau sous pression chauffée.
