ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In an inverted siphon in a sewer where the flow of sewage if not sufficiently large to give rise to a self-rinsing effect, a fluid reservoir is arranged upstream of the inverted siphon. The reservoir has sufficient volume to effect rinsing, whereby the fluid content of the reservoir is periodically emptied through the inverted siphon at a velocity which corres- ponds to and at least during a certain time exceeds the re- quired rinsing velocity.
