ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and an apparatus for squeezing roe from small fish, for example capelin or herring, are disclosed. The fish to be treated are trans- ported as a stream past a slit wide enough to permit the passage therethrough of fish without roe, yet narrow enough to prevent the passage of fish with roe. The fish are forced through the slit by a rotating cylinder forming one side of the slit and the resulting fish and roe are collected in an inclined basin beneath the slit for subsequent separation by sieving. It is preferred that there be a mass of fish to be treated above the slit, so as to create a pressure differential across the slit, to assist in the removal of roe from roe-bearing fish in the slit.
