ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a method and apparatus for sampling measurement results when checking a predetermined value of the diameter and/or curvature of a long object such as a log fed forward on conveying equipment. A measuring light beam passes through two break points in the conveying equipment's stationary part, and the conveying equipment's moving part is arranged in an unbroken manner and passes by and through the break points without the object's angular orientation being altered. In doing so, the object is supported by the moving part in a raised conveying position, so that the light can also pass under the object.
