Abstract of Disclosure A method and arrangement for testing the serviceability and for setting and calibrating a test apparatus for the non-destructive electrical and/or magnetic testing of metallic blanks, particularly steel slabs, for defects, such as surface or below-surface cracks, laps, shrinkholes, blow- holes, or the like, comprising inspecting heads or sensors capable of detect- ing such defects and mounted for displacement relative to the surface of the blank to be tested, test plates simulating a defective metallic blank being brought up to the test apparatus in a position in which they are in sub- stantial alignment with the surface of the blank to be tested. The inspecting heads or sensors of the test apparatus then tested by the test plates for working order and calibrated.
