A method and apparatus for performing an accelerated radius search. A search category is built (201) having a density value corresponding to a geographic area. A first search radius is generated (203) based upon the category, and the first search radius is used to perform a first search. If the first search returns an insufficient number of results (207), a second search radius is generated (209) by using an heuristic to increase the first search radius, and the second search radius is used (211) to perform a second search. The search is repeated until a desired results set is returned.

L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil permettant d'effectuer une recherche de rayon accélérée. Selon ce procédé, on établit (201) une catégorie de recherche dont la valeur de densité correspond à une zone géographique. On génère (203) un premier rayon de recherche en fonction de la catégorie, ce premier rayon de recherche étant utilisé pour réaliser une première recherche. Si la première recherche aboutit à un nombre insuffisant de résultats (207), on génère (209) une seconde recherche à l'aide d'une heuristique de façon à augmenter le premier rayon de recherche, le second rayon de recherche étant utilisé (211) pour réaliser une seconde recherche. La recherche se répète jusqu'à l'obtention, en retour, d'un ensemble de résultats désirés.
