Abstract of the Disclosure A method and apparatus for providing cyclical extrathoracic compression and expansion to induce breathing to a living body is provided, whereby a flexible band may be adjusted around the thorax of the body to be treated, with expandable bladders provided within the band and a reciprocating air pump expands and retracts the bladders such as to provide compression and expansion to the rib cage of the body where the expansion and retraction is a cycle between 1 and 20 Hz.
