A method and an apparatus for stretching an optical pulse and shaping its spectrum. The method includes the step: of providing a an optical fiber element having a first long length fiber Bragg grating (26) having a refractive index perturbation of varying periodicity. The optical pulse is launched into the fiber Bragg grating, wherein the Bragg grating reflects the pulse in a chromatically dispersed output. The reflected output is coupled with an optical modulator (34) programmed to temporally modify the amplitude of the chromatically dispersed output to attenuate selected optical frequencies in a desired pattern. The apparatus for stretching and arbitrarily shaping the spectrum of an optical pulse with a desired wavelength resolution .DELTA..lambda.res includes a routing optical(24) device and an optical fiber element having a Bragg grating. The routing optical device routs energy between different waveguides, and has an input port to receive the optical pulse.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé et à un appareil d'étirement d'une impulsion optique et de mise en forme de son spectre. Ce procédé consiste à utiliser un élément à fibres optiques possédant un premier réseau de Bragg (26) à fibres longues présentant une perturbation de son indice de réfraction de périodicité variable. L'impulsion optique est lancée dans le réseau de Bragg à fibres qui réfléchit l'impulsion et délivre une sortie chromatiquement dispersée. La sortie réfléchie est couplée à un modulateur optique (34) programmé pour modifier temporairement l'amplitude de la sortie dispersée chromatiquement dans le but d'atténuer des fréquences optiques sélectionnées d'un diagramme souhaité. L'appareil d'étirement et de mise en forme arbitraire du spectre d'une impulsion optique ayant une résolution de longueur d'ondes souhaitée DELTA lambda res comporte un dispositif optique d'acheminement (24) et un élément à fibres optiques ayant un réseau de Bragg. Ce dispositif optique d'acheminement achemine l'énergie entre différents guides d'ondes et possède un port d'entrée conçu pour recevoir l'impulsion optique.
