The present invention generally relates to a method and apparatus for the assembly of body components to an automotive body that has undergone a progressive series of framing and welding steps so as to produce a structurally rigid body frame, termed a body-in-white. More specifically, this invention relates to creating a new net locating scheme (X-Y-Z coordinate system) for a body-in-white to direct associated tooling to create net attachment features on said rigid body frame so that components may be attached to said automotive body at a net location eliminating the need for any slip plane attachment techniques.

L'invention concerne en général un procédé et un appareil (10) pour assembler des constituants de carrosserie sur une carrosserie de véhicule automobile qui a été soumise à des séries progressives d'étapes de façonnage et de soudage, de manière à produire une structure de carrosserie structurellement rigide, appelée carrosserie brute (A). Plus spécifiquement, l'invention concerne la création d'un nouveau schéma de repérage grille (système de coordonnées X-Y-Z) pour une carrosserie brute, afin de diriger l'outillage associé pour créer des caractéristiques de fixation de grille sur ladite structure de carrosserie rigide de façon que des constituants puissent être fixés à ladite carrosserie de véhicule automobile au niveau d'un emplacement de grille, éliminant la nécessité de toute technique de fixation par plan de glissement.
