An innovative bone anchor (46) and methods for securing soft tissue, such as tendons, to bone, which permit a suture attachment that lies entirely beneath the cortical bone surface. Advantageously, the suturing material between the soft tissue and the bone anchor is secured without the need for tying a knot. The suture attachment to the bone anchor (46) involves the looping of a length of suture around a pulley within the bone anchor, tightening the suture and attached soft tissue, and hahing a lumen containing a plurality of suture- locking elements (62a,62b) that clamp the suture therein. The locking elements (62a,62b) may be this and C-shaped. One or more locking plugs (68a,68b) attached to separable actuation rods (70) displace axially within the lumon and act on the locking elements (62a,62b) to displace them radially. A generally uniform passage through the locking elements (62a,62b) in their first positions converts to a smaller irregular passage after the locking plig (68a,68b) displaces the elements (62a,62b) to their second positions, thus effectively clamping the suture. The bone anchor (46) further may include locking structure (72a,72b) for securing itself within a bone cavity.

Un ou plusieurs bouchons d'obturation (68a, 68b) fixés sur des tiges d'actionnement séparables (70) sont axialement mobiles dans le passage et agissent sur les éléments de blocage (62a, 62b) pour déplacer ces derniers radialement. Un passage généralement uniforme à travers les éléments de blocage (62a, 62b) lorsqu'ils sont dans leur première position se transforme en un passage irrégulier plus petit lorsque les bouchons d'obturation (68a, 68b) déplacent les éléments de blocage (62a, 62b) vers leur seconde position, ce qui provoque un blocage effectif de la suture. Ledit ancrage osseux (46) peut en outre comprendre une structure de blocage (72a, 72b) destinée à fixer l'ancrage osseux dans une cavité osseuse.
