A. method and apparatus is provided for automated learning and performance evaluation of a group of items by a user. The apparatus, which can be a digital computer, has an input for receiving a user's response, a display for presenting the material to be learned and logic for sorting the items. The method, which can be practiced on a digital computer, has steps of querying the user as to whether items an believed to be known or unknown, sorting the items into groups of perceived known (44) and unknown (48) items, and generating a sequence (54) of items to be displayed (58). An important feature of this invention is that the user is tested regarding his belief as to whether the item is known or unknown not as to his actual knowledge.
L'invention porte sur un procédé permettant à un utilisateur de faire l'apprentissage d'un ensemble de sujets et de procéder à une évaluation de ses performances, de manière automatisée, ainsi que sur l'appareil correspondant. Ce dernier, un ordinateur numérique par exemple, possède une entrée destinée à la réception des réponses de l'utilisateur, un écran destiné à présenter le matériel d'apprentissage et une logique servant à trier les sujets. Le procédé, pouvant être mis en oeuvre sur l'ordinateur numérique, consiste à demander à l'utilisateur s'il pense connaître ou ignorer certains sujets, à les trier et les répartir en groupes de sujet perçus comme connus (44) ou ignorés (48) et à produire une suite (54) de sujets à afficher (58). Une caractéristique importante de cette invention réside dans le fait que l'utilisateur est évalué sur l'idée qu'il se fait du sujet, à savoir qu'il pense le connaître ou l'ignorer et non sur ses connaissances réelles.
