A method is described for automated development of a desired material composition, wherein various material compositions (formulations) are formed from several starting materials for producing test specimens with correspondingly different material compositions and inspecting them in a testing device. The invention is characterized in that the different formulations are processed in an injection molding compounder and molded into the test specimens, wherein the different formulations are stored in the control unit of the injection molding compounder, or can be read into the control unit from a data carrier or via a data line, and wherein the different formulations are processed automatically in accordance with a predefined test run and test specimens of different material compositions are automatically produced.
