The methods and apparatuses are provided for determining characteristics of an input optical signal in an optical network. An optical signal monitoring apparatus estimates a minimum time interval between transitions in the input signal, determines a clock signal based on the estimated minimum time interval, and performs a time domain measurement on the input signal based on the determined clock signal. The optical signal monitoring apparatus samples the input signal based on the determined clock signal and determined the characteristics of the input signal.

L'invention concerne des procédés et des appareils pour déterminer les caractéristiques d'un signal optique entrant dans un réseau optique. Un appareil de surveillance de signaux optiques (200) estime un intervalle de temps minimal entre les transitions (210) dans le signal d'entrée, détermine un signal d'horloge (206) sur la base de l'intervalle de temps minimal estimé et effectue une mesure (230) d'un domaine de temps dans le signal d'entrée sur la base du signal d'horloge déterminé. L'appareil de surveillance de signaux optiques (200) échantillonne le signal d'entrée sur la base du signal d'horloge déterminé et détermine les caractéristiques du signal d'entrée.
