This invention is a method and apparatus that promotes patient relaxation, reduces patient stress, and/or expedites patient recovery, in a health care facility or home based convalescent environment. The method includes providing a substantially glare free visual display device (10) with one or more open, natural, serene and, preferably, savanna-like landscape pictures (12). Such pictures, including large size high resolution photo-realistic images, are displayed by means of a substantially glare free display device (10), such as a flexible panel of fabric material positioned near a hospital bed (26) or a like item of furniture, in close proximity to the patient so as to give the patient the perception of being in a natural bio-phyletic setting. In certain embodiments of the invention, the bio-phyletic picture is removably attached to a movable wall, partition or hospital curtain structure (28) which forms at least part of an enclosure substantially around at least part of the hospital bed (26). Such embodiments are designed to meet all relevant health care codes and standards in regard to fire retardant and hygiene. The patient's experience of viewing the bio-phyletic visual image may be enhanced by augmenting the visual installation with the playing of audio recordings (19) of substantially natural sounds and/or providing a means to broadcast appropriate natural aromatic scents (25) into the patient's immediate environnment.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif favorisant la relaxation du patient, réduisant le stress du patient et/ou accélérant la guérison du patient,soit en milieu hospitalier, soit en hospitalisation de convalescence à domicile. Le procédé consiste à utiliser un dispositif d'affichage visuel (10) sensiblement non éblouissant présentant une ou plusieurs images (12) d'extérieur, naturelles et sereines, ressemblant à des paysages de savane. Pour afficher de telles images, y compris des photographies réalistes haute résolution et de grandes dimensions, on utilise un dispositif d'affichage (10) sensiblement non éblouissant, tel qu'un panneau souple de matière textile disposé près d'un lit d'hôpital (26) ou d'un meuble analogue, au voisinage immédiat du patient, de façon à donner au patient la sensation de se trouver dans un environnement naturel appartenant au monde du vivant. Selon certaines réalisations, l'image rappelant l'appartenance au monde du vivant est fixée de façon amovible à une paroi, à une cloison mobile, ou à une structure de rideau d'hôpital (28) formant au moins partiellement une zone fermée sensiblement autour d'une partie au moins du lit d'hôpital (26). De telles réalisations sont conçues dans le respect de tous les règlements et normes hospitaliers concernant la protection incendie et l'hygiène. On peut renforcer le vécu du patient concernant l'observation de l'image visuelle d'appartenance au monde du vivant en complétant l'installation visuelle par la reproduction d'enregistrements sonores (19) de sons sensiblement naturels et/ou par la mise en oeuvre d'un dispositif de diffusant des essences aromatiques naturelles (25) appropriées dans l'environnement immédiat du patient.
