ABSTRACT In the manufacture of a flexible, laminated composite body, a perforated film of shrinkable, thermoplastic material is fed over a guide path, which is continuously curved in one direction and heated by a heating means to the thermoplastic condition. With the shrinkage of the thermo- plastic material, a net structure forms when the perforations open up. Using the heat still present from the shrinking step, a carrier web of material on one side of the net structure is bonded, with the aid of the net structure, to another web of material by a pair of pressure rollers to form a composite body. By means of the curved guide path, an auxillary clamping of the perforated film takes place, by which the inward shrinkage of the peripheral zones is substantially reduced. Following adhesion, the net structure extends substantially right up to the edges of the webs which it is used to bond together so that there is a uniformly strong adhesion over the whole working width. The net structure may be bonded only to the carrier web where it is not desired to bond the other web to the structure at that time.
